Hainan Airlines – Pilot Reports

PIREP 1

I wanted to tell you a little feedback on the interview itself.

It was pretty basic, the chief pilots for both the A330 and A340 were there, they spoke mostly in Chinese and the interpreter attempted to convey technical questions. That was hard for her because she didn’t understand anything about the aircraft. Nevertheless, after talking about my flight history and going over recency on the A320 we dove right into technical. It was very short, the whole affair lasted 30 minutes or less.

The questions asked were, regarding procedures for a V1 cut including the techniques involved. He asked specifically about if the engine fire did not extinguish and what would I do. The answer they want is that you stay with the fire until it is secure, basically. Additionally, they asked about a few memory items for teh A320, I dont’ know if either of them ever flew it but they asked anyway. Windshear was the focus.

After we finished talking, they thanked me for coming and I stepped outside with Frank, the company liason. As we left Frank got a phone call and he then told I had passed the interview and that my medical was forthcoming. If I needed it, this would be when I would have been sent to take the sim and then the written tests.

I hope this helps and you can feel free to pass it along if anyone wants more information to put their mind at ease.
